Lazy!

We celebrated Kean and Khyle's birthday a day ahead. We prepared spaghetti, chicken and break for their friends who came for merienda, nothing fancy.

And, they were extremely happy with the gift they received from their A-ma (grandmother in Fookien) and A-i (mother side aunt).

Anyway, I had this LSS with what the kids played over and over and over again yesterday afternoon. It's the Lazy Song by Bruno Mars. Here's the official video which I think was cool since I'm pretty sure it didn't cost as much to make a Music Video and the song would definitely playback in your mind over and over again.

After the family affair we had yesterday, I wanted to have a day off! Talk about being Lazy. Happy Monday everyone!

Tip #101 - Salvaging Wet Gadgets

For gadgets that has been dropped into the water, there might be a solution on how to make it work again.

Here is the complete article copied from yahoo:

Splash! What to Do When Your Gadget Gets Wet

Everyone knows that gadgets and water don't get along. But fear not, all may not be lost when your smartphone, digital camera or other tech device takes an unexpected nose dive into the pool or ocean. Resuscitation can still be done with the help of a few key tips.
Although your gut reaction may be to take the battery out of your drenched device, dry it off and try it again, the battery should remain out until it's completely dry to avoid a shortage. Then use a towel to not only dry the battery, but also the area inside the device where the battery sits.
However, resist all temptation to pick up a hair dryer or let the device sit in the sun to help along the drying process. Gadgets need to be dried with still, dry air, not with excess heat.
Drying the device shouldn't stop with just cleaning up the wet areas. Place the device into a covered bowl or container of dry, uncooked rice to soak up all of the moisture from the device. It should sit there overnight in a cool, dry place.
Uncover the container the next morning, remove the device and hope for the best.

Ready for the weekend!

It's the twins' birthday on Monday, yey!! But, we'll be doing a little family celebration a day early, which is a Sunday, as they're turning 9 this year.

Since they'll be staying home on a Saturday while their papa and I have work, I bought a few DVDs, everything second hand, for them. Although I'm sure they'll prefer running outside than be a couch potato, thank God I have active kids who liked playing and going home sweaty over video games.

But then again, I'm sure they'll be watching a couple of these movies and be happy with 'em.

Happy weekend all!

Pottermore Revealed

Finally, JK Rowling revealed what's in Potter more.

Watch this video.

Here's the press conference video of the mysterious Pottermore.

I'm pretty excited for the website to launch on the 31st of October. I sure hope I can catch the early glimpse of Pottermore on the 31st of July.

Pottermore or More Potter - the big reveal

The big reveal is going to take place today. Can't wait.

For more information on JK Rowling's Pottermore revelation, go to http://pottermore.com.

In the meantime, I'm starting to read Harry Potter 6: The Half Blood Prince. I was really sad when Sirius Black died on Book 5. Sometimes, Potter can be so stubborn that everything he does is at the expense of his friends.

Anyway, I certainly hope I'll be able to read the whole of Book 7 before the 2nd half of the Deathly Hollows movie comes out.

Is class suspended?

DepEd has finally released their guidelines on which grade levels' classes are suspended once a typhoon is announced. That will make it easier for students and parents when to stay home during a typhoon.

Here are the guidelines that DepEd released, this is in accordance with PAG-ASA's announcement (courtesy of Yahoo):
  • Signal No. 1 - Classes in all Preschool Levels are automatically suspended in both public and private schools.
  • Signal No. 2 - Classes in all Preschool, Elementary and Secondary levels are automatically suspended in all public and private schools.
  • Signal No. 3 - Classes in all Levels are suspended in both public and private school.
However, in the absence of a storm warning signal, DepEd will give the full authority to announce suspension of classes by the school principal, division superintendent and local government unit.

On the other hand, there are talks of moving the school year to September to avoid the rainy weather at its height. In my opinion, this will be a "not so bad" decision since the students will be safe from the calamities, specially during strong typhoons, by staying at home.

What do you think?

Why so serious?

Yeah, why are we so serious? We had been getting a lot of devastating news reports everywhere, weather catastrophes, war, et al, and we don't want to add to that. Remember, smile and laughter can relieve you from all the stress plus it doesn't give you as much wrinkles as frowning and being mad.

Here is a video that I hope could make you laugh as it has made us laugh.

and since we're in this generation where bieber is a fever, here's another video of his song.

Has anyone seen the ad on Samsung Galaxy S II in France? Ran across this youtube video and I find the finger tutting really cool. See if you can follow the tutting.

And aside from the tutting, here's another ad on Samsung Galaxy SII.

Hmm.. Parang I want one. Oh well.

Jejemon You?

Personally, I'm irritated with these kind of texts as I have to exert extra effort just to understand what it says. And, it doesn't improve the person's ability to spell the words write instead it deteriorates one's spelling prowess. That's why I'm having doubts on gifting my kids with a cellphone since one of the reason would be spelling words in shortcut.

Anyhow, DepEd, Iloilo branch, has made its move not to recognize Jejemon Lingo in school (Bravo!).

Here is the article:

DepEd discourages use of ‘jejemon lingo’

Department of Education (DepEd) here encourages students to use proper language in school not the so-called ‘jejemon lingo’.

Iloilo City DepEd Asst. Schools Division Superintendent Angelita Ragudo said that using the ‘jejemon lingo’ may affect the language and spelling abilities of the students. She added that students should know how to use proper language especially during examinations, essay, assignments, homework and among others.
Jejemon refers to those “who managed to subvert the English language to the point of incomprehensibility and online lynch squads.”
It is commonly used by students in texting, email and social networking sites like Friendster, Facebook and Twitter.
Ragudo said that teachers play a big role in teaching and educating students on proper composition of language and spelling to avoid students.
Ragudo also said that this is the reason why there is continuous training for teachers particularly those teaching English and Mathematics subjects.
In Manila, due to the increasing number of “jejemons,” the DepEd ordered all teachers to inculcate in their students correct composition of text messages.
It also called on parents and other observers to curb this method of communication, especially among the students in efforts to avoid grammatical errors.
Education Secretary Mona Valisno said DepEd is already alarmed by the adverse effects of “shortcut” texting.
“Thus, we call on all teachers to advise their students to practice their writing and communications skills in English when texting their friends and families,” she said.

Pottermore or More Potter?

JK Rowling, the author of the famous Harry Potter series, has just setup a mysterious website.

Surfers of pottermore are greeted with two owls. A click on the owl will redirect you to a youtube site with the message "The owls are gathering... Find out why soon".

The famous author spokesperson, Rebecca Salt said: ""There is a holding page up at the moment. It is a new project and not a new book and it's not directly related to the film. We are not saying anything more at the moment."

A member of the fan site, www.the-leaky-cauldron.org, claimed to have seen what the mystery was all about and said that it was "breathtaking".

Clues were given out at different fan sites,  coordinates, which you have to enter and find them at this site, http://www.secretstreetview.com/. Please take note that these letters are magic and doesn't exist in the real world. (If you're having trouble finding the clue, just zoom in the map.)

Other sites with clues are as follows: Muggle NetHarry Potter XpertsHpanaBlog HogwartsSnitch SeekerPort Key'L Univers De Harry Potter, and of course, The Leaky Cauldron.

So far, the letters that was revealed from the coordinates are as follows: T E O R P E T R O. hmm, I wonder what it means.

In the meantime, here's an official trailer of the 2nd and last half of the Deathly Hallows.

Double Whammy for the Miami Heats

It's as if it wasn't upsetting enough that Miami Heats lost the championship, what with all the star players they have, the Miami Herald has to humiliate and publish a headline with "Congratulations Miami" as the main story.

Here's the local article from manila bulletin.

As if getting upset by the "underdog" Dallas Mavericks in six games of the 2011 NBA Finals was not enough, the star-studded Miami Heat got another slap in the face right in its own backyard.

The Miami Herald newspaper ran in its Monday edition an ad congratulating the Heat for their "win" in the NBA — right on the same page where it ran the story of Dallas' series-clinching Game 6 win.

"Congratulations MIAMI!" read the ad by Macy's. Images of the ad were posted on several sites on the Internet, including some blog sites. Also in the ad were images of Heat championship gear.

Miami actually lost 95-105 to the Mavericks Sunday night (Monday morning in Manila).

The Miami Herald's online edition ran a wire story on the faux pas, saying it "has issued a correction and apologized for any inconvenience."

But the error did not escape the online community.

"This represents the closest LeBron James and the Heat actually will get to the title this season," said Jeff Schultz of the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

In July last year, Miami was touted as an instant contender after LeBron James and Chris Bosh left the Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors respectively to join Dwyane Wade in hunting for a championship ring.

Miami Herald Macy’s ad declares Heat ‘NBA champions’ (UPDATED)

Here's a better photo than earlier version. (Miami New Times.)

(Last update: 4:40 p.m. Added an anecdote Falcons’ fans should remember from the Super Bowl season.)
And now, from the, “Dewey Defeats Truman” file, we give you: “Congratulations Miami!”
In the mother — or maybe that should be “King James” — of all mistakes, the Miami Herald ran a near-full page Macy’s ad in Monday’s newspaper, announcing that Heat “championship” T-shirts and hats were going on sale.
This represents the closest LeBron James and the Heat actually will get to the title this season.
Miami lost Game 6 of the NBA finals and the series to the Dallas Mavericks Sunday night. It’s common for print publications to have two display ads ready to go after championship events. T-shirt manufacturers operate similarly (and then either destroy the shirts for the losing team or send them to charities overseas). What made this mistake unusual was the Heat trailed the series three games to two before

Sunday and weren’t even in a position to clinch. So there was no reason to have the “Heat wins” ad ready.
Falcons fans should be able to relate to this. In January of 1999, the Herald ran a strip headline atop a Super Bowl special section that read: ”Denver Broncos vs. Minnesota Vikings, 6:25 P.M. Tonight.” The Falcons had upset Minnesota in the NFC title game two weeks earlier. The newspaper’s graphics department had already started to design the section and forgot to make the change.
In 2009, the Philadelphia Inquirer ran a Macy’s ad selling Phillies championship T-shirts. But the World Series was still going on — and of course, the Yankees went on to win the title.
The shirts pictured in the Monday’s ad show the Heat logo with the championship trophy. One says, “Champions,” and another reads, “Raise Another Banner.” The Herald posted a correction online Monday.
It’s not like most folks in South Florida haven’t been presumptuous about titles. When James andChris Bosh signed as free agents and joined Dwyane Wade in Miami, the news was celebrated at a press conference, which was complete with lights, music and pyrotechnics. James, the guy with the, “Chosen 1″ tattoo across his back, himself promised eight championships.
Still waiting for the first.

and, here is the retraction from Miami Herald of the wrong headline:

Miami Herald ad mistake: Heat win NBA title

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
The Mavericks' win over the Heat was a huge upset for fans in Miami, especially after an ad in the local paper mistakenly congratulates the Heat on the win.
A full-page ad that ran in Monday's Miami Herald reads "Congratulations Miami" next to photos of Heat championship T-shirts and hats from Macy's. One T-shirt reads "Heat 2011 NBA Finals Champions" and the ad shows the Heat's logo on the front of a hat with the words "NBA Champions."
The ad ran under a story about the Heat's loss.
The newspaper issued a correction and apologized for any inconvenience. A Macy's spokeswoman called it "an unfortunate error" and apologized to Heat fans.
The Mavericks beat the Heat 105-95 in Game 6 of the NBA Finals on Sunday in Miami.
